For Families
The Old Sorting Office specifically states "No children or babes-in-arms" in the property notes. This restriction exists primarily due to safety concerns with the open-tread spiral staircase that has gaps at the top. The property is designed as a romantic retreat for couples rather than a family-friendly accommodation.
For Couples
The Old Sorting Office offers a perfect romantic getaway with its cosy king-size bedroom and luxurious bathroom featuring both roll-top bath and walk-in shower. After days exploring, unwind together in the private hot tub. The open-plan living space creates an intimate atmosphere, while two local pubs within walking distance provide dinner options without driving.
Pet Friendly
Dogs are welcome at The Old Sorting Office with an enclosed garden where they can safely roam. Two dog-friendly pubs sit within 0.1 miles, both serving food. The park across the road offers immediate walking routes and the surrounding countryside provides plenty of exercise options. Dogs must stay downstairs and off furniture.

The Old Sorting Office Reviews

Alexandra
We had a great stay at The Old Sorting Office, the location was perfect and the cottage was really comfortable and the hot tub a bonus. We visited both pubs in the village and went on lovely walks in the park across the road. Also made a visit to the coast which was about 40 mins from the cottage. Would definitely recommend to others.
A delightful cottage in a lovely setting. The hot tub is luxurious 'bonus'
Michael
Lovely property, comfortable and everything provided for your stay. Also very convenient being attached to the Post Office with a well stocked shop. Hawarden is a lovely village and the people very friendly. Hopefully will visit again.
Richard
We had a great stay at the Old Sorting Office. It was an ideal base for a short break. Everything was as described in the listing. The welcome basket of treats from the hosts was great. Wed happily book again, if we are back in the area.
Jackie
The cottage was a beautiful place very well equipped. Washing machine microwave kettle oven toaster every pot pan and dish imaginable
Claire
We had a fabulous stay. The cottage was so homely and comfortable with everything we needed, including Welsh cakes and barra brith! The hot tub was great as was the secure garden for our dogs. Wonderful walks on our doorstep, and a fabulously warm welcome at the Fox and Grapes across the road where they serve delicious meals and lovely cold beer. We'll definitely be back.
Rochelle
Lovely cosy cottage. Enjoyed our stay. Hosts were very helpful.
Lovely spot . Quaint and unique property and would definitely recommend and have done so to friends . We will wish to return as had to check out after one night due to unforeseen circumstances. Only comment from key instructions is to prompt guest to check spam folders for email . We didnt ! Ended up phoned on day .. small thing
Fantastic accommodation. Loved the style of the place, great location and two cracking pubs. Plenty of walking for the dog. Will be coming back
Very nice but the stairs are unsafe. Clearly not dog friendly they need a backing on each step and carpet to stop slipping. A stair gate could be an option. The patio needs relaying with non slip slabs but it is also very uneven. Wall paper should be taken off as in places it is bubbling. The wall could be replastered and painted. With a small amount of work this would be a top venue and would warrant a higher price. I would return
Highly recommended . Just had a fantastic short break. The cottage is a home from home, extremely clean, a well equipped kitchen, and an amazing hot tub and enclosed garden was great for the dogs. The little touches tea, coffee, milk, bottled water, bara blith and Welsh Cakes a really nice thought. The only thing to note are the taps in the kitchen are the wrong way round hot tap is on the right.
Kirsty
Really lovely place to stay. Lots of lovely walks nearby. Wouldnt hesitate to book again.
Had a great stay at this lovely cottage. Couldnt fault anything, very clean, comfortable and very spacious. The extra treats were a bonus, Bara Brith was so yummy we bought more from next door to take back with us. There was a lovely walk for our dog on our doorstep, Howarden Old Park, very scenic and vast. The hot tub was great for relaxing in, great for the aches and pains, it was so good we are wanting one!!
Simone
Really nice place to stay, hot tub is wonderful even if I did mess it up. don't press the silver button. recently refurbished to a mostly high standard, I also refurb so am really picky Great selection of glasses although be aware not all fizz glasses match which might leave one of you with more fizz than the other. The towel are so lovely I went out an bought some for myself. The mattress is soft, I had just had a proper twinge on my back so it was rubbish for me, but others might appreciate it. only downside is the parking, it is a dedicated space which is well labelled, however people ignore this and park in front, this happened on consecutive days, not sure how to resolve this
Gillian
Overall a lovely quiet place in a lovely quiet village. Walks on the doorstep, with to good pubs that allow dogs and serve food. The Farm shop 34 mile a way is well worth a visit.
This cottage is a hidden gem and I loved my stay. Very cosy and comfortable with everything you could possibly need to enjoy a relaxing break in the historic village of Hawarden. There is plenty to see and do locally and then enjoy a relaxing evening in the beautiful little private garden included a soak in the hot tub. The cottage is very clean and well maintained and the Post Office next door has everything you need including delicious cakes. I will definitely be back.
Beautiful house in a lovely location
Andrea
Lovely quirky little cottage. Perfect for two people. Off road parking behind the property. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you will need. Hot tub is lovely and the back garden is fully secure for dogs. Perfectly located for Cheshire Oaks and Chester. Lovely dog walks locally. The Post Office next door is very handy. Would highly recommend The Glynne Arms for food.
Trevor
Very pleased with the accommodation and cleanliness. A very central position. We will stay there again.
Property was lovely. Beautiful inside. Information pack was thorough. The only negative was the hot tub was very chlorinated, so we couldnt use it.
